Age & Source Verified Cattle  05/07/09 2:20:45 PM

Age and Source Verified Cattle Program

In order to market your cattle as Age and Source Verified you will have to first contact an agency such as Ag Info Link or Microbeef to get approved for the Process Verification Program. A representitive will then conduct an onsite data verficiation audit prior to approval. In order to verify animals under the Process Verified Program you must have ranch records, have a uniquely identified product, and have documented procedures for identifying the animals. Upon approval, you will receive an approval letter and Certificate of Conformance bearing the USDA stamp. You are required to keep records of all approved cattle for a duration of three years.

The major benefit of enrolling into this program is the potential for a premium ranging anywhere from $20.00 to $60.00+ per head at slaughter on approved cattle.

Cattle do not have to be shipped into the feedyard bearing an approved EID tag (electronic identification device) but they must have a ranch tag in order to verify their identity. If cattle are received into the yard without the ranch tag they will not be able to be tagged with an EID tag making that animal uneligiable. We request that when shipping Age and Source Verified cattle to Mid-America that you send a copy of the birthing records, approval letter, and USDA certificate showing the approved cattle's EID number and birthdate (if cattle are tagged with an EID outside of the feedyard). In order for cattle to be sold as Age and Source Verified to the packers, they will need to have atleast two identifying tags, have the appropiate USDA certificate, and be UNDER 20 months of age at slaughter date.

Mid-America Feed Yard as been approved and certified for the USDA Process Verification Program through Ag Info Link since January 2006.
